Iran and Uzbekistan Forge New Medical, Academic, and Research Ties
A recent four-day visit by delegates from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences of Iran to Uzbekistan has inaugurated a significant new chapter of scientific, academic, and Research cooperation between the two nations. The trip, which took place from September 18 to September 22, 2025, was facilitated by an official invitation from Uzbek authorities and the Iranian embassy in Uzbekistan.
The Iranian delegation included Dr. Mortazavi, Vice-Chancellor of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Reza Zandi, SBMU’s Deputy of Treatment. Their mission served as the starting point for a range of academic, scientific, and medical contributions, including professor and student exchange programs, joint research collaborations, and the development of advanced medical technologies.
In Tashkent, the Iranian delegates engaged in productive negotiations with key Uzbek medical and academic leaders, including: Dr. Shohrat Baymrodov, Rector of Tashkent Medical Academy, Dr. Habibullah Aqilov, Director of the Center for Professional Development and Retraining for Pedagogical Staff, Dr. Tala Sheikhov, Director of the Center of Oncology and Radiology at Tashkent, Dr. Khorshid Fazelov, Director of the Heart Center at Tashkent.
These meetings established the basis for an academic, research, and medical partnership between the two countries.
A key objective for the Iranian delegation was to gather detailed information on Tashkent 's medical and treatment systems, focusing on hospital admission procedures and health and medical service provision. They also toured the city's private health sector and rehabilitation centers.
During discussions, both parties reviewed their respective capabilities and identified mutual fields of interest, leading to the outline of a broad cooperation agreement. The planned initiatives include: Extension of cooperation and the establishment of short-term courses, Development of Student and Professor Exchange Programs, Execution of Joint Research Projects, Publication of Scientific Articles in Authoritative International Journals, and the Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Cooperation will specifically focus on several critical medical fields: clinical care, cardiovascular medicine, liver transplantation, medical imaging technology, cancer treatment, radio oncology, and technology for radiopharmaceutical production.
This new partnership is seen as a focal point for developing treatment and medical infrastructure at a regional level and is expected to significantly benefit the medical and academic communities of Iran and Uzbakistan.
