Interstitial Lung Diseases Clinic Newly Set up in Masih Daneshvari Hospital
Dr. Jalal Heshmat Nia, in charge of the Interstitial Lung Diseases Clinic, stated that Interstitial Lung Diseases are known as rare ones which involve lungs. He also shed light on different underlying causes of the disease including drugs, certain occupations (mine workers, coal miners exposed to asbestos …), collagen vascular diseases( rheumatic diseases), as well as smoking which has an essential role in most of the ILDs.
He referred to early detection and diagnosis of the disease and its underlying factors, such as medication, occupation and rheumatic diseases, as the best way to approach the disease. Existing treatment modalities, most of the time, help to save intact parts of the lung in early stages of the disease which prevents severe disability of the patient. Additionally, discontinuation of medication, prevention of occupational exposure and treatment of rheumatic diseases result in improvement of the lung disease or at least halt its progression.
