In a festival with the presence of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, several national global technologies were unveiled in Tehran’s Pardis Technology Park.

The production of 12 previously imported primary drug materials ( two in treating infertility and cardiovascular diseases, and five Laser instruments ) were produced by the SBMU academic staff and researchers.

The primary material which is used in the production of Sodium Warfarin has been produced by Professors Afshin Zarghi, and Ali Reza Shafaati who are among the academic staff of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the SBMU School of Pharmacy.

Professor Shafaati noted: “Sodium Warfarin tablet is among the seriously important cardiovascular drugs, which had been imported under the trade name ‘Coumadin’, or its generic name ‘Warfarin’. The drug’s foreign currency consumption had been more than $US 2 million for our country.”

The drug has been officially approved by the FDA, and the only monopoly company presenting the drug has so far been the SERONO Company.

Professor Kobarfard said: “…the production of ‘CETRORELIX’ was designed, developed, and produced at the Pharmaceutical Chemical Lab of the SBMU School of Pharmacy by the synthesis method at the solid phase, and will soon out in the market by the ZAHRAVI Drug manufacturing Company.”

Moreover, in the festival, five Laser instruments, produced by the SBMU Research Center of Laser Usage in Medicine (RCLUM) were unveiled as well.

Professor Mohammad Reza Razzaghi, the SBMU RCLUM Director spoke on the production of the instruments and said: “The SBMU RCLUM is one of the active research centers in medicine and has so far conducted several research projects in Laser application in medicine.” He further added: “Among the research projects performed by the SBMU RCLUM, we may note to the investigation done on the on the amount of effect and depth of KTP Laser penetration, made by the Iran Atomic Energy Agency, or the Adenomas of the removed prostates through open-prostatectomy, investigation and comparing of Diode and TURP Laser in patients with BPH, comparing the KTP and TURP in patients with BPH, comparing stone cutting machines with Holmium Laser therapy and Lithoclastic pneumatic Laser therapy in patients with ureter stones, comparing the results of treatment and side effects of three methods of stone cutting and nephron-lithotomy subcutaneously and flexible retroscopy with Holmium in treating stones larger than 15mm diameter in the kidney papilla.”

Professor Razzaghi also noted that Holmium Laser stone breaking instrument, and the KTP Laser tool (in the treatment of prostate diseases), low power Laser machines (in the treatment of pain, and muscle diseases, etc.), Laser instruments used in dentistry, and CO2 Laser tools in dermatology have been among the tools unveiled in the festival.
