Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences Joins the Global (More Than Our Rank)Initiative
Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU) has officially joined the global More Than Our Rank initiative by publishing its institutional statement on the initiative's official platform. The initiative, led by the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS), brings together universities that advocate for a more comprehensive assessment of higher education institutions beyond their positions in global university rankings. SBMU is also the first Iranian medical university to become a member of this international initiative.
The More Than Our Rank initiative, which is supported by the Leiden Ranking through a collaborative partnership, is founded on the principle that while international ranking systems can reflect certain aspects of university performance, they cannot fully capture an institution's mission, values, societal impact, or broader contribution to the development of communities. Through this initiative, participating universities publish institutional statements highlighting the distinctive dimensions of their activities and achievements that extend beyond conventional quantitative ranking indicators.
In its statement, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences emphasizes that its mission extends far beyond achieving positions in international rankings. The University reaffirms its commitment to creating a lasting impact on public health, enhancing the quality of education, advancing knowledge production, promoting impactful research, expanding international collaborations, strengthening social responsibility, fostering innovation and sustainability, and educating highly competent professionals. The statement underscores that the true value of a university cannot be measured solely by ranking metrics, but rather by the meaningful impact it has on people's lives and the advancement of society.
