THE Asia University Rankings 2026

Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences has maintained its third-place position among national medical universities and ranked 172nd in the 2026 THE Asia University Rankings.

Achieving 172nd place in this highly competitive ranking reflects the university’s strong performance and growing potential across Asia.

The university’s continued progress is the result of sustained efforts in scientific research, education, and academic development, which have strengthened its position in the region.

According to a report released by the university’s Department of International Affairs, a total of 1,405 universities from across Asia participated in the 2026 rankings. Of these, 929 institutions were ranked, while 476 that did not meet the evaluation threshold were listed as “Reporters.”

Among the 101 universities from Iran that participated, 90 were ranked and 11 were designated as Reporters. Notably, the top five universities are from China, followed respectively by universities from Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong.

The ranking methodology evaluates universities across five key areas: Teaching (learning environment); Research Environment (volume, income, and reputation); Research Quality (citation impact, research strength, excellence, and influence); International Outlook (staff, students, and research); and Industry (income and patents).

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are widely recognized as comprehensive global performance tables that assess research-intensive universities across their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. The Asia rankings use the same framework, with adjusted weightings to better reflect the priorities of Asian institutions.

According to the 2026 results, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences showed significant improvement in three core areas, international outlook, teaching quality (learning environment), and industry engagement, leading to an overall rise in its ranking.

In response to this achievement, Dr. Mortazavi, Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs, expressed appreciation for the dedication and contributions of faculty members, researchers, students, and staff. He also emphasized that continued support from the University President, along with the commitment of academic and administrative teams, will help lay the foundation for further growth and advancement in education and research in the coming years, ultimately leading to even higher rankings at both regional and international levels.
