The 9th International Breast Cancer Conference Was Held
The 9th International Breast Cancer Conference was held in SBMU during 26-28 February, 2014 with the presence of 20 participants from Europe, Asia, and the USA, as well as the presence of more than 600 Iranian specialists. SBMU is the only Iranian center at the national level to present data on breast cancer. There have been a collection of 500 articles presented to the participants at the conference.
The latest breast cancer diagnostic and treatment methods were presented at the conference which depended basically on epidemiological, etiological, risk factors, prevention, screening, molecular biology, and the latest advances in genetics classification, rehabilitation, psychological, socio-economic factors, moral health, nutrition, and medicinal problems.
While noting to the growing prevalence of breast cancer in Iran, and the studies conducted in the field in their center, Professor Akbari, the SBMU Cancer Research center (CRC) director mentioned the studies on 7000 breast cancer cases, the 5- year survival rate among females has been 71 % while it has been a bit less among the males.
While mentioning that 54 % of the breast cancer cases are suffering from Vitamin D deficiency, Professor Akbri said: “ The SBMU CRC is among the 10 main centers globally and the first at the national level to work on the effects of Vitamin D on breast cancer.” He further mentioned that SBMU will be admitting Fellowship Students in breast cancer surgery and post-doc program period in the near future.
