Visit of the UNICEF Regional Director for Middle East and North Africa and his delegation from the NICU sections of Mahdieh Hospital
Dr. Geert Cappelaere, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, along with UNICEF representative in Iran Mr. Will Parks, Ms. Christine Weigand, UNICEF deputy representative in Iran, along with Ms. Majdfar, Head of Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) of UNICEF in Iran, and Dr. Haj Ghasemali, Director of Hospital Affairs and Clinical Excellence of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Habibollahi, representative of Department of Neonatal Affairs, Ministry of Health and Dr. Mafi, International Advisor of university with the presence of the head of the center, Mr. Mahabadi and Dr. Afjeh, Faculty Member of Mahdiyeh hospital and Head of NICU Department had a visit of the NIDCAP neonatal care project at Mahdieh hospital, on Tuesday October 19th, 2017.
UNICEF, originally was recognized as the sponsor of the project in Iran and has been evaluating what has been done so far and planning for the next steps in this hospital.
The program will run with two approaches at the center:
- Improving the quality of evolutionary care at the center and ultimately giving NIDCAP credential to learners.
- The training and education of specialist staff in order to upgrade the system and will be recognized as an approved trainer by obtaining a certificate from the NIDCAP International Federation. Further, the new trainers will provide training to other health care staff at this center and other centers.
It should be noted that visits to the NICU and infants sections were carried out by the UNICEF Regional Director and his colleagues, who were satisfied and thanked for the successful implementation of the project at the Mahdieh hospital.
