Message from the Vice-Chancellor of International Affairs, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, on World Pneumonia Day November 12, 2025

On the occasion of World Pneumonia Day, Dr. Mortazavi, Vice-Chancellor of International Affairs at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, shared a message to raise public awareness and reinforce the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

World Pneumonia Day serves as a vital opportunity to highlight global health challenges and reaffirm our shared commitment to achieving the UN’s SDGs. Pneumonia remains one of the leading causes of infant mortality worldwide. Effective prevention and control strategies demand cross-sectoral and international collaboration.

As both scientific and social institutions, medical universities play a pivotal role in advancing SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being for all. In alignment with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, the Department of International Affairs prioritizes building strong global partnerships to enhance implementation efforts and empower academic and scientific collaboration with universities and international research centers.

Achieving sustainable health requires awareness, synergy, and coordinated action. By leveraging scientific expertise, social responsibility, and international cooperation, medical universities strive to significantly reduce the burden of respiratory diseases such as pneumonia. Global health begins with unity and partnership, which are the cornerstones of sustainable development.
