Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences Ranked First Nationally in Research and Technology
Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences has secured the top national ranking in research and technology, according to the latest evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. This comprehensive assessment of medical universities across the country placed Shahid Beheshti University at the forefront of innovation and academic excellence.
The evaluation, as reported by the Public Relations Office of the university’s Department of Research and Technology, was based on four major domains: governance and leadership, knowledge production and translation, impact and output, and technology development. These were measured across 23 subcategories and 107 performance indicators.
This historic achievement, marking the first time the university has reached the top spot, is the result of the tireless efforts and dedication of its faculty, researchers, and students.
Dr. Zarghi, Vice President for Research and Technology, emphasized that international collaboration is essential for elevating the university’s global standing. He stated that aligning with the university’s internationalization strategy, the primary goal in research and technology is to achieve high rankings in global systems such as Leiden, Shanghai, Scimago, and Webometrics.
To fulfill this mission, the university has actively pursued partnerships with international institutions and scholars. Notably, 32% of its research output has been produced through international collaborations.
Dr. Zarghi also highlighted the university’s strategic transition from a second-generation to a third-generation institution. Initially focused on enhancing the quality and quantity of research, the university has since invested in foundational infrastructure, including the development of growth centers and knowledge-based enterprises.
He further noted that the publication of 5,000 international articles, accumulation of 150,000 citations, establishment of 250 knowledge-based companies, and creation of 750 innovative products have positioned the university on the path toward becoming a third-generation institution.
Dr. Zarghi underscored the critical role of research in addressing societal challenges and improving public welfare. He stressed the importance of applying research outcomes to meet community needs and enhance quality of life.
Looking ahead, the university has articulated a bold vision: to evolve into a fourth-generation university where public welfare and societal impact are central to its mission. A clear and comprehensive roadmap has been developed to guide this transformation in the coming years.
